CCM s.r.l was awarded as Main Contractor
the HIAEP-0016 Project, for the full turnkey fit-out of the North Node Lounges,
Hotel and Associated works in June 2020 at Hamad International Airport. A
prestigious project and one of the many projects being awarded for the HIA
Expansion Programme.
The scope of works included for a Design
and Build project where the Lounges were originally designed by Antonio Citterio
Patricia Viel and
Partners and the Hotel was originally designed by Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum
(HOK) earlier in 2012. CCM with its Design Subconsultant CUNDALL, revised the design to bring in alignment with current specifications and standards.
CCM engaged itself to deliver all
the packages within the North Node Lounges and Hotel as the Main Contractor and
engaged major subcontractors for Specialist works.
The areas which are a part of the works
included;
1.Ground
floor – Hotel Storage, Office and Canteen
2.Ground
floor – Activity Nodes 7 & 8
3.First
Floor – Hotel Lobby / Reception
4.Mezzanine
Floor – Airline Lounges
5.3rd Floor – Hotel Guestrooms and Service
Rooms
6.4th Floor – Hotel Guestrooms and Service
Rooms
7.5th Floor – Addition & Modification to
Mechanical / Electrical Systems
8.Roof
– Additional Emergency Escape Catwalks, Escape Hatches and the like.
The scale of the works required, and the
location of the works created a challenge for the project delivery. Being both
within an existing operational Airport but further at a location where other
major contract packages are being executed to make ready the Airport for the
2022 FIFA World Cup.
Furthermore, the Project was being
delivered at the peak of the COVID 19 Pandemic. The Pandemic creating a global
disruption of supply chains and manpower as well as the need to establish
robust Safety practices to mitigate the risks of working in close quarters.
CCM s.r.l began the gargantuan task in
June 2020 and successfully delivered the project ahead of the FIFA World Cup in
August 2022.
